American artist Bart Dorsa will take part in Glasstress 2015 Gotika project, curated by Dmitry Ozerkov and Adriano Berengo – a collateral event of the 56th Art Exhibition, co-organised by the State Hermitage Museum and Berengo Studio. The exhibition brings together over 50 renowned artists from all over the world to explore the effect Gothic and medieval ideas have had on modern conscience and contemporary art.

For Glasstress 2015 Gotika, Dorsa develops his ongoing Crossroads project, part of which was presented at the 55thVenice biennale in Bart Dorsa. Katya exhibition. Dorsa’s new work Relic Glass #1, specially made for Glasstress 2015, immediately evokes the dark chamber housing the “relics of Saint Katia”, as noted by Philippe Dagen from le Monde in his review of the exhibition. Relic Glass # 1 is a fragmented body sculpture, which presents the epitome of femininity. Its ragged outlines symbolizing suffering and pain, are suggestive of female martyrs, like Joan of Arc – for glass is born out of fire. Crystal clear and filled with light, the sculpture is devoid of corporality, despite its meticulously accurate representation of the body.

The exhibition is on view at Palazzo Franchetti, Venetian Institute of Science, Letters and Arts / Campo S. Stefano, 284, Venice from May 9th through November 22nd, 2015.
